My First Prize

I always remember my joy and happiness when I got the first prize in essay writing competition some years ago. I was studying at grade eight. The District Education Office had organized inter-school essay competition. After a long practice, I was selected from my school to participate in the competition. The topic was, "The Queen as a Patron of Children." I wrote being very conscious and I gave concentration to selecting words and presenting arguments. Anyway I finished smoothly. I was not satisfied with my own essay. After seven days, when I got the result, I stood first. For some time, I couldn't believe that my name was in number one. All my teachers and friends congratulated me. I was so happy.

The result of the essay competition inspired me a lot. I received thousand rupees cash prize, and an anthology of top essays in Nepali, a token of love, sets of pen and notebooks, and certificate. My name was published in different newspapers. My parents and relatives expressed their happiness and inspired me to keep it up. My principal and school family got the message of congratulation published in national and local newspapers with my photo. It became a matter of discussion for several days for concerned people. Actually I got a great time to be inspired that I took it as a challenge in my study career to keep on maintaining it, I started laboring hard day by day.

A small mode of event can bring a great change in life. I was not very bright student in any subject though I was interested in literature and creative writing. But the inspiration I got from the result of that essay competition made me labor hard. Gradually, I improved in every subject. I came to the focus of all the teachers and students. My teachers and school started to hope good result even in SEE by the grace of god and cooperation of my parents and teachers; I passed my SEE with distinction. I got eighty two percent marks. Since I stood first, my academic career reached the top height. Now I can easily maintain my standard and I hope I will be doing better in future too. I never forget the events that led me to this successful stage of life and career.
